‘Dragon Ball’ surpasses ‘One Piece’ to become the most profitable work of Toei, the legendary Japanese animation studio

Toei Animation is one of the most important animation studios in the world, an anime legend that over time has adapted such important series as ‘Mazinger Z’, ‘Dr. Slump’, ‘Saint Seiya’, ‘Digimon’ and of course ‘One Piece’ and ‘Dragon Ball’, among many others. The last two have been references for several generations and over the years have tended to be the most profitable for the company, and the new financial report provided by Toei has shown that the work of Akira Toriyama is once again at the top.
Dragon Ball’ has managed to beat ‘One Piece’ in both domestic and overseas licensing, bringing in a total of ¥12.7 billion (over $82 million) in the second quarter of the year. It should be noted that this report was released before the premiere of ‘Dragon Ball Daima’, so these figures may have increased thanks to the impact of the premiere of the new series. For its part, ‘One Piece’ exceeded 11 billion yen in the second quarter, while in third place is a series such as ‘Digimon’, which reached almost 850 million yen.
