Dragon’s Dogma II is bigger, better, and more epic than the original

During the Capcom Showcase 2023, Dragon’s Dogma II unleashed a a ton of details about the upcoming long-awaited sequel.

Capcom chose to close off its Capcom Showcase 2023 with a new look at Dragon’s Dogma II, and what a look it was. With a new story trailer to bring fans back into its dark fantasy world, the game’s director showed up to excitedly talk about what fans can expect of the new title.

Apart from an incredible looking graphical aspect thanks to the RE Engine, we got a look at new vocations (what character classes are called in Dragon’s Dogma), its expanded combat mechanics that will look familiar to veterans of the series, and the confirmation that Pawns are once again back in the same manner as the original to complete your party of 4.

As in the original, the player is accompanied at all times by their very own pawn: an NPC built and fully customizable by the player that learns and adapts to the way you play. Additionally, you can bring up to 2 support pawns with you, which are actually pawns created by other players. This all means that if you were hoping for some multiplayer, the bad news is that it’s not coming in a traditional way.

Dragon’s Dogma II is 4 times larger than the original

Capcom boasted about many of the upgraded features coming with the sequel, which in short mean that this game is bigger and bolder than everything that came before. We’re talking about an fully realized open world fantasy title, full of enemies, events, and locations that all look and act uniquely. Take a look at what Capcom themselves say about it:

“Dragon’s Dogma II harnesses the power of the RE ENGINE to create a world map about four times the size of the original Dragon’s Dogma that is densely populated with enemies, events, and locations rendered with the latest graphical technology. The environment is complemented by immersive physics and character AI that brings Pawns, monsters, and NPCs to life. Pawns organically guide players to new locations, dynamically cooperate during battle, and even react to special moments such as celebrating narrow victories with high-fives.”

“Monsters new and old encourage players to devise numerous strategies to succeed in combat, or even avoid it all together. NPCs, such as the bow-wielding Ulrika who has a deep connection to the Arisen, or the high priestess of the beastren Nadinia, will form intricate relationships with the Arisen that set the stage for nuanced story moments.”

Dragon’s Dogma II still has no official release date, but we know that it is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam.
