EA Sports College Football 25 gets flooded by 2.2 million early-access players

It’s been a long time, but after a decade without an official College Football game, EA Sports is bringing back the franchise with current players and teams from all over the United States. And it seems like millions of fans are just as excited, as it’s been revealed that over 2 million of them paid up the higher tiers of the game editions to get access to the game three days before the official release.

Millions of EA Sports College Football 25 players join the early access period

Officially set to release on Friday, July 19, 2024, the collegial football game rushed out of the starting line with over 2.8 million players. However, this is in large part due to the fact that around 2.2 million of those purchased the $99.99 Deluxe Edition of the game, which offered three days of early access.

What this means is that hundreds of thousands of concurrent players have been online enjoying the game since Tuesday, July 16. On its first early access day, over 700,000 concurrent players where online playing matches. By the time of its full release, that concurrent number had stabilized at around 550,000. However, that’s not the full picture.

According to official numbers from Circana (formerly NPD), when you took into account unique users from all of the platforms where the game was available (Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Steam), the number reached the 2.2 million mentioned previously, which reveals that as the amount of players that paid for the deluxe version of the game (or higher) and actually logged on. On top of that, over 600,000 additional users tried the game out through the company’s own service, EA Play, and the free trial they offer through it.
