During our most recent coverage of EA Sports FC 26 in Vancouver, Canada, we had the opportunity to learn all about the revamped progression system for Club Mode. This update allows players to develop their virtual professional players with greater depth and customization than in previous editions.

Archetypes

The main new feature in this installment is Archetypes, 13 different playing styles, each inspired by a global soccer icon. Added to this are dynamic live events and the long-awaited ability to belong to multiple clubs, promising a richer and more immersive experience for fans.

When you first start playing Clubs, you will be allowed to select a starting Archetype. The remaining 12 can be unlocked using Club Coins, FC Points, or consumable items that can be obtained as rewards. Each Archetype has unique characteristics and a customization system that gives you unprecedented control over your Pro’s evolution.

Progression is based on Archetype XP (AXP), which is earned by playing Club matches. The amount of AXP varies depending on your Role Rating (formerly known as Match Rating), your in-game actions, and the type of match (league, playoffs, friendly, etc.). Even Skill Games contribute AXP, although with a weekly cap. As you level up, you unlock Attribute Points (AP), upgrades for your Signature PlayStyles, new abilities known as Signature Perks, and additional slots for customizable PlayStyles. It is important to note that each Archetype progresses independently.

Live events and the multi-club experience

EA Sports FC 26 introduces “Live Events” for Club mode, offering dynamic tournaments with unique challenges and varied rules. These events, featuring a single-elimination format of up to four rounds, promise an intense atmosphere with a new “Rush Stadium.” Participation will earn you rewards such as cosmetic items for your Pro and progression consumables. Some events will be multi-stage, where victory in one will unlock higher-level events with better rewards. There will also be exclusive “House Rules” for these events, such as “Designated Scorer” or “Rugby Rush,” where shoulder charges will not be penalized.

One of the features most requested by the community is finally here: the ability to be a member of up to three clubs at the same time. This allows you to switch freely between them from the Clubs menu. However, please note that Rush and Playoffs Club rewards can only be earned for one selected “favorite club.”

Other improvements

The Clubs lobby interface has been redesigned to improve clarity and functionality. You can now check your Archetype’s Role Fit in each position, allowing you to see how well it suits the team’s tactics. New assignments for set pieces have also been added, giving you greater control over offensive and defensive routines for corners and throw-ins.

The goalkeeper role receives special attention with new cameras, assistance options, and the integration of PlayStyles specific to this position. In addition, those who choose this role will be able to participate exclusively in Clubs Rush mode. The AI Facilities feature is also introduced, a strategic tool that allows managers to improve the attributes of AI-controlled teammates, sharing the budget with improvements for human players. Finally, Competitive Gameplay will be mandatory in Clubs within EA Sports FC 26, to reduce randomness and offer a more consistent and controlled experience.
