Elden Ring DLC: what’s the recommended level for starting Shadow of the Erdtree?

Shadow of the Erdtree, Elden Ring’s first and only expansion, is almost upon us. Is your character at a high enough level to journey into the Land of Shadow?

The journey into the Land of Shadow is about to begin. In other words, the Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, is only a few weeks away from release. Are you ready? As you well know, FromSoftware usually makes starting up its new content a bit more complex than the industry standard, so jumping into the new adventure is not as simple as pressing a button. In fact, have you checked if your character is at an adequate level?

Minimum level for Elden Ring DLC

Just like when you ask what level you must have to defeat a certain boss in the main game, there is no single answer, since weapons and their upgrades, armor, summons, talismans, and, of course, the ability of each player at the controls are aspects that directly impact the difficulty of Elden Ring. However, in the case of Shadow of the Erdtree, it is possible to give an approximate figure: a level of 120 will be more than enough.

The recommended level is not a random number, as it is based on the prerequisites FromSoftware has implemented to start playing the Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. In short, as it is necessary to find and kill Mohg, Lord of Blood (the one at Mohgwyn Palace, not the one deep in the Capital’s sewers), and that only happens in the endgame, not to mention that it is one of the most difficult bosses, it is normal to think that it is very unlikely that you will reach that section of the game with a much lower level.
