Elden Ring: Nightreign adds duo expeditions and major quality-of-life upgrades
FromSoftware’s latest patch introduces two-player co-op, streamlined relic management, and UI improvements across all platforms.
FromSoftware has officially released patch 1.02 for Elden Ring: Nightreign, bringing with it the long-awaited Duo Expeditions mode and a suite of quality-of-life improvements. The update rolled out on July 31, 2025, following a brief delay due to tsunami warnings in Japan, and is now live on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Duo Expeditions: two-player co-op arrives
Originally designed for three-player squads, Nightreign now supports two-player expeditions, a feature heavily requested by fans since launch. Players can:
- Select “Number of Players” directly from the expedition interface
- Invite one friend via password or use community matchmaking
- Experience rebalanced enemy difficulty tailored for duos
- Skip random third-party matchmaking for tighter coordination
The UI has been updated to reflect this change, replacing “Expedition Type” with a clearer “Number of Players” setting.
Relic management and inventory upgrades
Patch 1.02 also revamps the Relic Effect filter screen, allowing for more granular control over inventory:
- Filter relics by multi-effect conditions
- Create up to 100 relic presets
- Sell or favorite relics directly from the Rewards menu
- View selected character’s presets first in the All Presets list
These changes make it easier to manage builds and gear mid-expedition, especially for players juggling multiple characters.
UI and merchant improvements
Additional updates include:
- Tabs added to the Small Jar Bazaar and Collector Signboard
- Detailed item descriptions now available from Limveld merchants
- Cutscene skip added after defeating the Night Aspect boss
- Improved visibility for character skill effects and targeting indicators
Everdark Sovereign cycle continues
The patch also kicks off the second Everdark Sovereign cycle, introducing new ultra-hard boss variants like:
- Augur (Everdark version)
- Tricephalos
- Equilibrious Beast
- Fissure in the Fog
These bosses offer enhanced rewards and challenge scaling for high-level players.
