Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree gets mixed reviews on Steam due to its difficulty and performance

Performance on PC is one of the main issues of PC players with Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. But it seems others have a problem with how hard it is.

Update:
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree gets mixed reviews on Steam due to its difficulty and performance

Shadow of the Erdtree has finally been released, with the Elden Ring expansion gaining unanimous acclaim from critics and the media, to the point of becoming the highest-rated DLC in history, surpassing even Blood & Wine from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. However, PC players are not having such a perfect experience, and the expansion so far has mixed reviews on Steam mainly due to its performance, but also due to its high difficulty.

Players criticize performance and high difficulty

With more than 42,000 reviews from Steam users, Shadow of the Erdtree surprises everyone with these ratings. Most of the complaints from players come from the technical section and its performance on PC. “A game with graphics from 2012 and that asks the same as one with Unreal Engine 5. What the hell is happening?” says one of the reviews. “I already thought that the base game had poor performance, but with the expansion they have made it even worse,” says another.

In general, almost all of the negative reviews go in this direction, but there are quite a few who mention the high difficulty of the DLC, even for a FromSoftware game, but which on this occasion some players think it has gotten out of hand. “They don’t know how to surprise the veterans, and they have to pull ‘traps’ that confuse your muscle memory,” says one of the players, who boasts of having dedicated hundreds of hours to other titles from the Japanese studio. “The bosses are more unfair than ever, since no matter how you go you die in two hits and then there are times when they start doing special attacks and they don’t stop doing them until you die,” says another.

In short, although Shadow of the Erdtree has arrived delighting many From Software fans, there are many who are not entirely happy with the work of Miyazaki and company.
