Eva Longoria saved the original ‘John Wick’’ from being canceled with her own money
Hollywood superstar Eva Longoria paid millions out of her own pockets to rescue the production of the original ‘John Wick’ Movie.
The ‘John Wick’ movie saga has become a modern classic. Since the first film in 2014, Keanu Reeves (‘The Matrix’) has played the action hero in the four installments that the franchise has released. In fact, ‘John Wick 4′, which premiered last year, is considered one of the best movies of recent times. However, before the original movie, it turns out we were almost left without the franchise at all.
Due to a sudden gap in the original film’s funding, the production ran out of money a day before filming began. Directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch were preparing for the production, and it was financed out of their own pockets, but they lost 6 million dollars at that moment. That’s when Eva Longoria showed up and covered the entire sum out of pocket and put in what was necessary to keep the project afloat, thus becoming executive producer. She later admitted that it was “The best money she’d ever spent.”
A race behind the cameras
Eva Longoria, who is known for her role in the series ‘Desperate Housewives’, has become one of the most important people behind the cameras in recent years. She founded her production company UnbeliEVAble Entertainment in 2005, which she later sold.
The opportunity to become an executive producer for ‘John Wick’ after providing the missing 6 million dollars out of her own pocket, arose due to a proposal from the CAA. The company was raising funds and asked some actors if they could contribute the money to invest in the film, promising them that they would be the first to receive it back. Longoria picked up the phone and saved ‘John Wick’ from oblivion, this being her first big job as a producer. “She came to the rescue and provided us with the necessary financing less than 24 hours before we had to close the doors on the film and leave,” said Chad Stahelski. He also admitted that he didn’t know who had put up the money until the movie was a box office hit.
