‘Stranger Things,’ the most successful series in Netflix history, is about to come to an end. Last month we saw the first episodes of season 5, and now episodes 5, 6, and 7 have just been released, leaving episode 8 for December 31, 2025. There are only a few days left, so let’s take this opportunity to review everything you need to know before the finale, with an explanation of ‘Stranger Things Season 5’ (so far).

  • The Upside Down, a bridge to the Abyss - Everyone thought that the Upside Down was the other side of Hawkins, but it isn’t. It is an intermediate space; a kind of bridge between the real world and another world called the Abyss, where Vecna was born.
  • Exotic matter and the wall of the Upside Down - At this point, one thing is clear: destroying the Upside Down would hasten the end of the world as we know it, which is exactly what Vecna wants. The “magical” sphere above Hawkins Laboratory is exotic matter, and it is the only thing keeping the Upside Down, the bridge between the real world and the Abyss, standing. Behind that wall, there is absolutely nothing. Well, as Dustin says, there is only one thing: death.
  • Vecna’s plan - Henry / Vecna always refers to a new world, but what he really wants is for the Abyss to fall upon the real world so that they merge into one. Both he and other monsters use the Upside Down as a path to the real world, but they all owe their nature to the Abyss.
  • Max has awakened - With the help of Lucas in the world of the living and Holly in the vicinity of the Creel House, Max has managed to escape the Upside Down and return to Hawkins, but neither Holly nor the other 11 children have returned. Will they manage to save themselves in the final episode?
  • How to defeat Vecna - This is the big question ahead of episode 8 of Stranger Things 5. The theory is that the Abyss is located about 600 meters above the ground level of the Upside Down, but there is no way to reach such a height. Mike, Dustin, Eleven, Kali, Will, and company’s plan is to let Vecna begin to execute his plan and cross several cracks so that both worlds come closer together, but without allowing them to touch, as that is the monster’s goal. Once close enough, they will try to enter the Abyss to kill Vecna in his own world, and then place a bomb next to the exotic matter and escape, with the aim of making the bridge connecting both places disappear forever.
