Emergency services attended Holyrood Road early this morning and confirmed structural damage, with no casualties.

Rockstar North

Update: A Rockstar representative confirmed to the media that the studio is now “open and operational.” “Early Monday morning, there was a malfunction in one of the heating boilers at Rockstar North. Many thanks to those that reached out with concern, and also to the police and fire crews who were on scene quickly to assess the situation - please know that everyone is well and our studio remains open and operational.”

The original story follows:

The Rockstar North headquarters in Edinburgh (the studio responsible for the Grand Theft Auto series) was cordoned off on Monday morning after emergency services responded to an incident at the building, located on Holyrood Road. At this time, authorities have not publicly disclosed the cause of the incident, beyond confirming the response and the existence of structural damage to a commercial property.

According to information provided by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the alert was received at 5:02 a.m. (local time) on Monday, January 19, mobilizing “three crews” and specialized resources. Firefighters worked to secure the site and “protect” the area affected by the structural damage. The operation concluded at 9:21 a.m., with no injuries reported.

What is officially known so far

Official confirmation at this time is limited to three points: the emergency call in the early hours of the morning, the presence of structural damage, and the absence of casualties. At the same time, Police Scotland also confirmed that its officers were at the scene while the operation was underway, with the perimeter closed off during the morning.

Social media and some unofficial reports have mentioned a possible boiler explosion inside the building, but this has not been corroborated by the emergency services in their public communications at this time.

For now, no additional damage has been reported, nor has an official statement been issued on the condition of the interior of the building beyond the structural damage already mentioned. In the absence of further updates from Police Scotland or the fire department itself, the situation remains pending official clarification.
