Fans claim Oda prevented ‘One Piece’ from falling into ‘Naruto’s’ biggest flaw with a masterful move

The manga created by Eiichiro Oda deals with the resource of rebirth more consistently than the one proposed by Masashi Kishimoto.

One Piece vs Naruto

One of the strengths of ‘One Piece’ is its ability to spin plots with great twists that keep its fans in suspense, whether through manga or anime, with its characteristic and quirky approach to its characters, both main and secondary. And what makes Monkey D. Luffy’s adventures different from other popular manga works like ‘Naruto’ is how Eiichiro Oda has managed to get rid of clichés to avoid plot holes and inconsistencies, something that affects Masashi Kishimoto’s work in different parts of its plot.

Eiichiro Oda surpasses Masashi Kishimoto in this respect

One Piece’ is a masterful blend of mystery, action, and character development, supported by constant surprises that make the intriguing plot even better; and ‘One Piece’ is not the classic Shonen series. In fact, Oda is recognized for his mastery in integrating a large cast of characters into his own universe, demonstrating brilliant writing throughout the series. And a good proof of this is how he deals with the cliché of reincarnation and rebirth.

With the introduction of Joyboy and Nika, many fans tried to connect the two characters directly, which was denied by Oda himself, as they are two different entities: while one is a myth, the other exists on the physical plane. The only connection between the two is the threat they pose to the world of ‘One Piece’; this twist on the reincarnation cliché avoids the inconsistencies and plot holes we can find in Kishimoto’s series.

‘Naruto’ and its approach to rebirth

In retrospect, we can see several plot holes when we look at how Kishimoto handled the rebirth cliché in ‘Naruto’. From Naruto and Sasuke’s fight in the Valley of the End to Itachi’s ambiguous morality, Kishimoto planned everything from the beginning. And while the plot fits the lore of the series, the concept of rebirth doesn’t quite work as it should, as evidenced by the plot holes and inconsistent plots that run through the entire series, something that has been evident in fan questions.
