Farewell to Mega Bloks: Pokémon and LEGO set a date for their Pikachu-led product line
LEGO will be responsible for translating the Pokémon universe into bricks, with Pikachu at the helm.

The times they are a-changin'. Bob Dylan sang it in his heyday, and the tune still resonates with us today. Pokémon has become a huge global brand. Actually, it was from its humble beginnings as Pocket Monsters, but in recent years, it has become a generational phenomenon. Its popularity is unstoppable, and it spawns collaborations like this one.
LEGO will begin marketing products under the Pokémon license in 2026. Block by block, brick by brick, the Game Freak universe will be captured in a physical format to delight fans. The first embodiment of this collaboration is the Pikachu tail featured in the reveal video, indicating that it will be one of the first figures to be released next year.

LEGO beats Mega Bloks to take over rights to Pokémon
“The LEGO Group and Pokémon have strong shared values of imagination, creativity and fun, making this the perfect partnership to deliver unique, meaningful and engaging ways for Trainers to experience the Pokémon brand,” said Gaku Susai, Chief Product and Experience Officer at The Pokémon Company Internationa, in a press release. It was clear that the collaboration would happen sooner or later. LEGO has been investing heavily in recent years to bring Nintendo licenses to its format. The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Super Mario and even consoles like the Game Boy have come to life in brick form. Although Pokémon is not a Nintendo license, the Japanese company owns a significant percentage of the company.
This marked the end of the collaboration between The Pokémon Company and Mega Bloks. The Canadian company (owned by Mattel) continued to market Pokémon products under its own label throughout these years. In the end, it was the Danish company that took the lead in renewing the contract.
