Farewell to Tequila Works: confirmed the definitive closure of the creators of Rime, Deadlight and The Sexy Brutale
After more than 15 years since its foundation, the Spanish studio closes its doors.

The terrible crisis that the video game industry is going through gives no respite and has just claimed a new victim. It is Tequila Works, the Spanish studio responsible for titles such as Gylt, Rime, Deadlight and The Sexy Brutale, among others. Unfortunately, this is not surprising news, since the team founded in 2009 by Raúl Rubio Munárriz and Luz Sancho Rodríguez declared insolvency last November and now, through a statement from Raúl Rubio himself, has confirmed its definitive closure.
Rubio’s publication on LinkedIn reads as follows: “Fifteen years of memories and experiences, moments and lessons, smiles and miseries, unbreakable friendships and irreconcilable breakups, not a few slaps and trips. It has been three unforgettable years”. The creative wanted to focus on the good times and avoid talking about the outcome of everything, thanking all those who have accompanied him during an intense journey marked by many more successes than disappointments.
15 years of games
The first of Tequila’s projects was, in turn, one of the most acclaimed in the history of the Madrid-based studio: Deadlight (2012), a 2D survival adventure in which we had to travel through a post-apocalyptic world infested with zombies. Five years later, in 2017, they surprised us with the charismatic and unmistakable The Sexy Brutale, a morbid celebration in which the queen of the party was none other than death. In 2017, one of the most important years in the history of video games left us RiMe, an unforgettable adventure that drinks from the work of Fumito Ueda (Team ICO). More recent is Gylt, a horror title that debuted exclusively for Google Stadia.
We’ll have to wait to see which path the members of the studio take, but we’re sure that at some point they’ll conquer us again with their talent.
