Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Season 2 aims for “evolution,” say its creators
SNK details a faster character cadence, balance changes, and long-term plans for the series.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves - Season 2 is about to begin. Just a week ago, SNK confirmed that its latest fighting game will be revamped with a new wave of content, led by a new season of characters. This will include four classic characters from the franchise, as well as two mysterious characters that have not yet been officially revealed, although rumors already point to a possible collaboration with one of the most influential manga series of the 1980s.
Ahead of the season’s launch, we spoke with City of the Wolves Director Hayato Konya and Producer Shinya Tamaki to learn more about the philosophy behind Season 2, its increased scope, and what players can expect moving forward.
A faster cadence, and an evolved fighting for Season 2
Season 2 represents a notable expansion in scope compared to the game’s first season, particularly when it comes to character additions. According to Tamaki, the decision to increase the roster was driven directly by fan demand following the franchise’s long hiatus. “We heard from a great number of fans that they wanted to use ‘this character’ or ‘that character,’” Tamaki explained. As City of the Wolves marks the first new Fatal Fury release in 26 years, the team moved quickly to scale up its development capacity. “As a result, we finally have the resources to be able to add one character per month starting from October 2025,” he added, emphasizing that the goal is to maintain this pace for as long as possible.
From a creative standpoint, Konya defines Season 2 with a single word: “Evolution.” After the launch of Season 1, SNK gathered extensive player feedback and used it as the foundation for the game’s next phase. “We want to provide an ‘evolved’ version of FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves with Season 2,” Konya said, noting that the team hopes players will feel those changes across the entire experience, not just in new content drops.
This philosophy is also guiding the game’s ongoing balance adjustments. Konya acknowledged that certain character archetypes dominated early competitive play. “So-called ‘Standard’ characters stood out a bit too prominently, and we felt like characters with other concepts did not get much opportunity to shine,” he explained. With Season 2, the team aims to create an environment where a broader range of playstyles can thrive.
New Fighters, Guest Characters, and Creative Challenges
While four of the six Season 2 characters have already been revealed, SNK is keeping the remaining two firmly under wraps. “Unfortunately, we will have to keep this a secret for now,“ Tamaki declined to elaborate.

Guest characters, which played a key role in the first Season Pass, remain a possibility moving forward. Tamaki emphasized that any crossover must feel authentic to the world of Fatal Fury. “We think that characters that match the world and themes of Fatal Fury make for the best fit,” he said. At the same time, the team is eager to push creative boundaries by introducing fighters with “various kinds of fighting styles and characters with unique traits,” as long as they both expand the game’s universe and resonate with fans.
Continuing a Story Decades in the Making
Beyond gameplay, City of the Wolves also serves as a long-awaited continuation of the series’ narrative. Konya revealed that one of the team’s priorities was revisiting storylines left unresolved since Garou: Mark of the Wolves. “We wanted to continue the stories that had previously been left unfinished,” he said, noting that SNK worked closely with developers from the original title to ensure narrative continuity. For new characters, the team invested significant effort into crafting detailed origins so they would “fully integrate into the world of Fatal Fury.” Konya added that the story will continue to move forward, with each character bringing new developments to the larger narrative.

What Comes Next
Details regarding the pricing of Season Pass 2 have not yet been announced. Following the free release of the first pass, Konya offered only a brief update: “We don’t have anything to note at the moment,” asking players to stay tuned for future announcements.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Season 2 will arrive on January 22, 2026.
