The handoff from Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft is getting closer to becoming a reality on screen. Prime Video has released the first official image of Sophie Turner as the most famous archaeologist in video game history. The image stands out for two reasons: the dramatic physical transformation the actress has undergone and how faithfully it captures the character’s classic look.

The image is not only important for showing how closely the series will stick to the classic video games, but also as confirmation that the project is moving forward in earnest. Rumors of a possible cancellation had been circulating online, but Amazon has ultimately taken firm control of the project.
Alongside the announcement, the studio revealed that filming will begin “very soon,” with Phoebe Waller-Bridge leading the creative vision. She will serve as the series’ creator, writer, and executive producer—maintaining full creative control since her involvement was first announced back in January 2023.
Waller-Bridge will also be working with a truly high-profile cast. In addition to one of the main faces of Game of Thrones, the series will feature actors such as Sigourney Weaver, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein.
