First images of Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, and others as The Beatles in Sam Mendes’ project
The most important British band in history will be brought to the big screen by Sam Mendes in a four-part film series.
Films such as Rocketman, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Straight Outta Compton have established the musical biopic as one of the genres that has produced the best films of the last decade. However, the project that Sam Mendes (’Hamnet,’ ‘American Beauty’) has in the works is his most ambitious to date, as he plans to make no less than four films. Its protagonists are the pioneers of 20th-century modern music, the British band The Beatles, and each of the productions will star one of its members: Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison.
To bring this saga to life, Mendes has relied on young stars who are already well established. McCartney will be played by Paul Mescal (Gladiator II), Harris Dickinson (The Ironclad) will be John Lennon, while Joseph Quinn (Fantastic Four: First Steps) and Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) will be George Harrison and Ringo Starr, respectively.
Thanks to promotional postcards randomly placed in some record stores in the British Isles and the US, we can get a first glimpse of the actors as their alter egos in each film.
When will The Beatles movies be released?
The Liverpool quartet will begin hitting theaters in April 2028, as although there are no fewer than four films to be released, production already began last year in 2025. In addition to the four protagonists already mentioned, Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones) will also star as Linda McCartney and Anna Sawai (Shogun) as Yoko Ono.
As expected, the film has all the image rights, including the music, so fans are sure to be completely satisfied. The four films will tell the story of each of the members’ lives, but they will obviously be interconnected.
