First look at The Thing’s design in Marvel Studios’ ‘Fantastic 4′ and it’s very comic booky

‘Fantastic 4: First Steps’ is one of the most anticipated films in the superhero genre next year 2025, along with ‘Superman’, and both will be competing at the box office thanks to their very close release dates. But back to the 4F’s Marvel Studios debut - besides the cameo of John Krasinski’s Mr. Fantastic in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, we now know what the MCU’s The Thing will look like thanks to a leaked video from the set of the film. And it looks like we’re going to have a very comic-book Ben Grimm, judging by his surprisingly good looks.

And this first glimpse of The Thing is more than surprising, both for its decidedly comic book look and for the way it has been recreated for the occasion, completely done with practical effects. Of course, it has not yet been confirmed if this kind of life-size costume will be used for his scenes in the movie, or if it is just a “dummy” used as a reference for the character in relation to the rest of the actors.

What this first glimpse of Ben Grimm does confirm is that Marvel Studios has gone for a decidedly classic design, not only for the 1960s-style costume - the period in which the movie takes place - but also for the look of his face, which is completely based on the classic The Thing from Jack Kirby’s comics.

Beyond the doubts that may be generated by the use or not of a Ben Grimm made or not with practical effects - if so, it is undoubtedly that the visual effects department would improve his screen presence - The Thing of the MCU will go for his more comic book look, which is certainly good news for Marvel fans, with his marked frown, his tiny eyes and his big mouth with a taciturn expression.
