First Video of Luigi in Super Mario 64 Unveiled

The video appears to be from an old VHS from 1995, and reveals what was shown at Space World that year, where the game was first shown.

We think we have seen it all when it comes to the most popular retro video games, but the passage of time shows that there are still secrets to be discovered. Super Mario 64, one of the greatest works in the history of the media, had a planned multiplayer mode that was never included in the final Nintendo 64 version (although it was in the DS remake). Luigi was supposed to be one of the selectable characters, but is there any video to prove it? Everything seems to indicate that the answer is yes.

Space World was a trade show organized by Nintendo where they announced all the new products for their consoles. Last month, a YouTube user uploaded footage of a 1995 VHS in which Super Mario 64 appears for the first time. For just one second, Mario and Luigi appear on screen in an early version of the Nintendo 64 classic.

As reported by VGC, a number of Nintendo classics files were leaked in 2020, including Super Mario 64. Among them, a model of Luigi that was never used in the 1996 version was found.

Where you can play Super Mario 64 in 2023?

Super Mario 64 is available on Nintendo Switch, but buying it is a little more complicated. To celebrate the character’s 35th anniversary, the Japanese released Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a compilation that included the Nintendo 64 classic as well as Super Mario Sunshine (GameCube) and Super Mario Galaxy (Wii). Controversy arose when the title was removed from stores and the Nintendo eShop. As a result, it can only be purchased in physical form in stores.

Another option is to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, a service that provides access to Nintendo 64 classics such as Super Mario 64 in an emulated version on the console.
