Fortnite aims to rival Overwatch and Valorant with a new first-person tactical mode
Ballistic is a new tactical mode for Fortnite in which Epic Games aims to take a slice of the pie from other titles like Valorant and Overwatch.
Fortnite Chapter 6 has come loaded with new features, but aside from the content that can be expected as skins and other cosmetic items of the new season, Epic Games also has in the spotlight a new game mode called Ballistic that promises to give a lot to talk about after its release on December 11, 2024.
This is Ballistic, Fortnite’s new first-person game mode that aims to take on Overwatch and Valorant
In a blog post on the official Fortnite website, Epic Games introduced Ballistic, a new tactical 5v5 first-person game mode. Although Fortnite already has experiences of this type thanks to its powerful experience editor, this addition is significant because it is a mode developed by Epic Games itself, which is a guarantee of quality.
On December 11, 2024, Ballistic will arrive in Fortnite in early access mode. It is a competitive game mode in which two teams of five players alternate rounds between attacker and defender. Strategy, tactical teamwork, and individual skills are the main keys to victory. As an Early Access, it will only come with a single map called Syline 10 and a limited selection of weapons and items.
In Ballistic, the goal of the attacking team is to place the Crack Point device and defend it until it detonates. In fact, this game mode is very reminiscent of Call of Duty’s Search and Destroy or Counter-Strike’s Bomb Disposal maps, so Epic Games wants to bring all the excitement and adrenaline of the more tactical and strategic modes to its flagship title.
The launch of Ballistic almost coincides with that of another of the most anticipated titles of the year: Marvel Rivals, where there is an ongoing collaboration with Fortnite that allows the unlocking of cosmetic items in the latter. From this timing, we can also deduce that the arrival of this tactical mode is intended to compete with other proposals of the tactical and hero shooter genre, such as Marvel Rivals itself, Overwatch 2, or Valorant.
In doing so, Epic Games is expanding the catalog of official experiences within Fortnite, where in addition to the core battle royale modes, you can now enjoy car racing in Rocket Racing, musical battles a la Guitar Hero in Fortnite Festival, and building and survival a la Minecraft thanks to LEGO Fortnite. Epic’s dream of making Fortnite “more than just a video game” is making more and more sense, as each of these new additions keeps it fresh and relevant over time.
