Fortnite Servers not responding: how to fix the error to be able to play?
What does the message “servers not responding” mean when trying to start Fortnite? The answer is very simple: the servers are undergoing maintenance while Epic Games fixes problems.

If you are trying to play Fortnite on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, you will probably come across a message on the screen: “the servers are not responding.” Don’t panic: there is no problem with your PC, mobile, console or your game account; the reason why you can’t access the video game is simpler. A new patch has been implemented in the game this day, but its developers are having trouble deploying it at all. For this reason, the company, Epic Games has temporarily disabled the servers, so, as users, we can only wait.
Fortnite servers are unresponsive: when will they be active again and what to do in the meantime?
On July 15, 2025, starting at 4:00 a.m ET, Epic Games temporarily disabled Fortnite’s servers while patch 36.20, which adds new content such as weapons, items and outfits to the game, was implemented. This date and time is equivalent to the following at different times across the United States:
- 4:00 am ET
- 3:00 am CT
- 1:00 am PT
If we try to log in shortly after this time during this particular day, we are unable to do so, as Fortnite does not progress from the title screen, where the message “servers are not responding” is displayed. This is because the servers are in maintenance mode temporarily while Epic Games ensures that the latest patch content is implemented correctly. In pages like Downdetector, the number of reports already have spiked.

Normally, this maintenance period after a “minor” patch is two or three hours, but, on this occasion, it is slightly longer. Epic Games itself, through its X account dedicated to reporting on the status of the game, has revealed that today’s waiting time will be longer and has been extended more than expected. The reason, as they say, is that there is a problem with the offline checks of the game that they must fix before enabling the servers again.
Hey everyone, we're extending downtime while we work to resolve an issue discovered during offline checks.

In other words, all we can do is wait several hours after downloading patch 36.20, the most recent patch of the game. After this time, Epic Games will have already reactivated the servers. In the worst case, Fortnite could be offline for practically a whole day, as has happened on previous occasions. To receive real-time updates on the status of the servers, we can visit the X profile @FortniteStatus or the official Fortnite service status website.
In short, if today, Tuesday, July 15, 2025, you can’t play Fortnite because the servers are not responding, there’s nothing to worry about. Epic Games has temporarily disabled access to the game to properly implement all the new features of the latest content update, while ensuring that this latest version of the game will be as stable as possible. All you can do is download patch 36.20 and wait for the servers to come back online, which usually takes a few hours.
