Fortnite: what is the Placeholder quest and why can’t you complete it?
Here’s what the “placeholder” message means in Fortnite and why it may appear, as well as everything we know about it.
Fortnite players have come across a mysterious message in several Quests in the game: “Placeholder”. In this article we’ll tell you what placeholder means, how to complete missions, and why this message appears:
What Placeholder means in Fortnite and why does it appear
If you have been able to log into Fortnite and have not been affected by the current connectivity problems, as of 08/07/2023, in the Quests tab of the game you might have seen a very strange message. They are currently appearing in the Snapshots quests, the new Doctor Slone Missions, which means that they cannot be completed, with the description simply stating “Placeholder”.
This message appears due to an error by Epic Games. Apparently they have already activated Doctor Slone’s Snapshots Quests, but they are not yet available in the files, so the game can only show the message “Placeholder”, a generic message which is usually there before being replaced by the text of the Quests themselves. In other words: they are not secret Missions with a hidden objective as has happened on other occasions; this is an Epic Games error.
Interestingly we can complete this “first Quest” using any gesture or dance in a game of any game mode. We will get the 30,000 XP, and we will not be able to continue doing anything else.
Doctor Slone’s Snapshots, along with other juicier content like the new Jujutsu Kaisen skins should be added to Fortnite with patch 25.30. At the time we publish this news, it does not yet have a release date, although it could be at the earliest Tuesday August 8, 2023.
