Fortnite: Zeus will be defeated in Story Quests, followed by a mini-event

The latest Fortnite patch gives us juicy data about the current state of the game’s story and the upcoming mini-event that will kick off the new season.

Fortnite is preparing for a mini-event that will lead to Chapter 5 Season 3, as it happened in the previous one with Pandora’s Box. Thus, the popular Epic Games’ video game begins preparations to launch this small event in the absence of conventional events, taking into account the recent changes in the game.

All the latest on Fortnite’s upcoming mini-event ahead of the new season

Last Friday, May 3, 2024, patch 29.40 brought a lot of new content to Fortnite. This content includes the final story quests of Chapter 5 Season 2, which reveals how players can defeat Zeus, the king of the Olympian gods.

The story is as follows: The Society, the faction led by Valeria in Chapter 5 Season 1, sought an ancestral power belonging to the gods of Greek mythology. This angered Zeus and the others, who believe that humanity should no longer exist, and whose plan is to wipe it out when an hourglass reaches zero.

As part of the final Story Quests of the season, we must deactivate this hourglass to prevent the countdown from being completed, and we must also defeat Zeus to prevent him from proceeding with other possible extermination plans. These quests will be available from May 7, 2024, until the end of the season.

Mind you, Zeus survives his defeat by humanity, as revealed by the dialog of some NPCs on the island like Medusa or the Oracle, who is the one who gives us the story quests.

So what happens with the Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 mini-event?

The Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 mini-event should take place sometime before May 24 at 2:00 AM ET, as that is the deadline for this season. For now, we know that it will generate a countdown that will mark the start of the new season of the game.

In the mini-event, it can be deduced for now that it will consist of several lightning bolts that will begin to fall on the southeastern part of the island, approaching the place where Pandora’s Box was.

In addition to the lightning, this thunder will cause small earthquakes and craters in different parts of the island, suggesting that something is wrong despite Zeus’ defeat.

It’s expected to be a small event with player participation, and once again, Pandora’s Box will have something to do like last season, as one of the newly added loading screens shows it with an ominous golden glow.

And if the leaks that there have been regarding Fortnite’s roadmap in 2024 are true, and it looks like they are since it was practically confirmed with the arrival of Billie Eilish at the Fortnite Festival, the next season will have an apocalyptic theme. Perhaps wanting to take advantage of the pull of ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,’ a movie that will be released on May 24, 2024, the same day that the new season of Fortnite begins.

Why will it be a mini-event instead of a major event?

Since last December 2023, Fortnite has only been holding mini-events of this type instead of big events like Galactus or Black Hole. The reason? The fact that on those dates, Epic Games’ video game went from being just a battle royale to an “experience hub” with additional game modes like Fortnite Festival (music/rhythm), Rocket Racing (racing), and LEGO Fortnite (survival/building).

Much of the staff that used to manage Fortnite’s in-game events are now dedicated to supporting these additional game modes, which is why there are hardly any events like there used to be.
