Frodo in the next ‘The Lord of the Rings’ movie? Elijah Wood wants to return

‘The Hunt for Gollum’, the next new movie in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, is currently underway, and at least another member of the original Fellowship wants to reprise his role.

El Señor de los Anillos, Frodo

The announcement of the next ‘The Lord of the Rings’ film has brought with it rumors, speculation, and a few wishes, both from viewers and from the actors who participated in Peter Jackson’s original trilogy. Viggo Mortensen and Ian McKellen, Aragorn and Gandalf respectively, have already referred to their possible return in statements to the media. But what about Elijah Wood, who played Frodo Baggins in all three films? In an interview with JoBlo he has shown to be more than interested in becoming the Hobbit once again. Will we see him again in ‘The Hunt for Gollum’?

“It would be pretty incredible,” he admitted. “I have to say, any return to New Zealand to work with those individuals within the context of that world would be… Jumping back into a world that’s so beloved and means so much to me. So yeah, it would be awesome.” At the moment, nothing has been officially said about the story or the characters that will be part of the film. The only thing clear today is that Andy Serkis will reprise his role as Gollum, a character destroyed by the influence of the One Ring, which has been corrupting his mind for centuries.

The film trilogy does not show the sequences in which Gandalf and Aragorn pursue Gollum to prevent him from being captured and reveal the Ring’s whereabouts to Sauron and his hosts. This may be one of the stories explored in ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ since Peter Jackson himself has expressed his desire to narrate some of the plots that were left out due to lack of time or space.

Elijah Wood put his hairy feet back on in ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’, where he has a small role at the beginning of the film, in a flashforward with the elderly Bilbo, played again by Ian Holm.

The cinematographic future of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ goes through the three productions confirmed to date: ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ will hit theaters in 2026, but Peter Jackson’s universe will return sooner, on December 13. It will do so through ‘The War of the Rohirrim’, an animated film about Rohan’s past. Later there will be another live-action feature film, about which nothing is known yet. Meanwhile, the second season of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ will be released on August 29.
