From one of the most beloved characters on ‘Friends’ to a tough cop who breaks the rules: here’s a look at Matt LeBlanc’s new series
‘Flint’ is the working title of the upcoming project from Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey on ‘Friends.’
For many, Matt LeBlanc’s name will forever be inextricably linked to that of the irreverent Joey Tribbiani from the iconic ‘Friends,’ but the actor is determined not to be typecast in this role. In his next project, LeBlanc will play a police officer burned out on his job who begins to adopt tougher and more expedient methods in the hope of getting fired, but ironically, this makes him a better cop and earns him a flood of praise.
This is ‘Flint,’ the upcoming crime series starring Matt LeBlanc, the beloved Joey from ‘Friends’
CBS (via ScreenRant) has announced its next project starring Matt LeBlanc. Under the working title ‘Flint,’ this is a crime series with a rather intriguing premise. Here’s how its creators describe it: “In ‘Flint,’ Matt LeBlanc plays a burnt-out LAPD detective who, on the verge of retirement, is blindsided when the city extends his service by five years. Determined to get fired, he breaks rules and disobeys orders, which, to his dismay, makes him an even better cop.”
Although the synopsis doesn’t explicitly mention it, everything points to this being a dramedy that will combine drama and high-octane police action in the style of ‘The Rookie,’ along with plenty of funny moments stemming from the protagonist’s rule-breaking behavior. Otherwise, there is still no approximate release date, nor is it known when production will actually begin: first, the long-awaited green light must be secured to make the project a reality.
LeBlanc himself will serve as executive producer of the series in addition to starring in it, and CBS plans to assemble a writing team led by Evan Katz, one of the showrunners of Kiefer Sutherland’s acclaimed series ’24.’ If everything comes together, it will mark Matt LeBlanc’s return to CBS after a decade: the last time he worked with the network was on the uneven ‘Man with a plan.’
