From the MCU to the DC Universe: James Gunn Wants Dave Bautista Back After 'Guardians of the Galaxy

After his recent physical transformation, Dave Bautista would have to hit the gym again, but the former WWE star-turned-actor has repeatedly expressed his desire to play Bane, a villain who put Batman on the ropes in the ’90s comics. His disappointing exit from the MCU, where he played Drax the Destroyer in 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and other films, could bring him closer to James Gunn’s new DC Universe, and the director has already expressed a desire to work with him again.

Gunn is still unsure what to do with the Bat and his characters, and it has been rumored that he could make canonThe Batman’, the Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson film, and its derivative products, such as the ‘The Penguin’ series. Several actors have shown interest in playing Bruce Wayne, with Glen Powell being the most vocal, but so far Gunn has made no progress. But could he have Batista as one of the villains?

“I don’t know if Dave wants to be Bane anymore, he used to want to be Bane”, Gunn said in an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “I think Dave would rather be any other character than Bane right now. “I think that’s probably the case, so of course, I love Dave and want to work with him again, but I’m not sure he wants to [play that character] anymore.”

However, his current appearance, in which he looks much thinner than usual, does not seem to be the best way to get into the villain’s skin. The actor recently admitted to getting “too big”, and after losing up to 75 pounds of muscle, there was even speculation that he might be ill. “The more I slimmed down, the better I looked on camera and next to other actors,” he said, alluding to his role in Knock at the Cabin, the M. Night Shyamalan film in which he looked imposing.
