FromSoftware

FromSoftware is aware of how much fans want a Bloodborne remake or re-release

FromSoftware’s Hayao Miyazaki knows that there is a desire for more Bloodborne in any form, but he’s got bad news about the situation.

Captura de pantalla - Bloodborne (PS4)

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree was recently announced, so it’s not a surprise to see the community of fans hyped up for the upcoming expansion/DLC. But while Elden Ring players celebrate, an equally valid part of FromSoftware fans continue to raise their voices in the hopes that the developers or Sony hears their pleas for more (or at least, better) Bloodborne.

The desire for a sequel to Bloodborne, or even just a PS5 version with improved loading times and framerate, has been a constant for years ever since the gothic soulslike graced the PS4. An evolution of the Dark Souls formula with a victorian and lovecraftian edge, Bloodborne captured the attention of the community by delivering an outstanding title that challenge many of the preconceptions we’ve ground to expect from the Souls series. But after an amazing DLC was released for it back in 2015, the game stopped being supported, and the IP was seemingly forsaken.

Will FromSoftware ever do more Bloodborne games?

During an interview with IGN, Hidetaka Miyazaki spoke about how he’s aware of the demand for more Bloodborne, but there’s not much FromSoftware can do about it. “Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically,” he said. “We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware. For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we’re not at liberty to speak to it.”

The news is unfortunate but definitive: there is nothing in the works right now, and even if it were it wouldn’t depend on FromSoftware. Sony is the sole owner of the Bloodborne IP, and as such it would be their decision or choice to order the development of a new title in the series, be it a full remake or even a simple remaster.

Still, with Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree set to release on June 21, 2024, fans of the FromSoftware and the soulslike genre have a lot to look forward to.
