‘Furiosa’ gets its first reviews and its Rotten Tomatoes confirms it’s as good as we hoped

The Cannes showing of ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ ended with a seven-minute standing ovation, and the first reviews double down.

Furiosa

The world premiere of ‘Furiosa’ has already taken place in Cannes, and the first reactions and criticisms didn’t take long to arrive. Is it as good as ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’? Well, if we go by these reviews and its score on Rotten Tomatoes, the answer is clear: no. However, there is no need to throw up our hands, the prequel more than meets expectations and is worthy of the price of a ticket.

In fact, the audience that was able to enjoy this premiere gave a standing ovation for 7 minutes, with George Miller enthusiastic about such an effusive reaction, along with the protagonists of the film, Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa) and Chris Hemsworth (Dementus). At the moment, ‘Furiosa’ boasts a remarkable 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, while ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ directly broke the metrics with a spectacular 97%, within the reach of very, very few, and which in recent times has only been met by ‘Late Night with the Devil’.

Despite not reaching the numbers of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’, ‘Furiosa’ is a new winning card for George Miller, and it is not difficult to predict that it will also be the same at the box office around the world when it is released on Friday the 24th of May.

A rough experience for Taylor-Joy

The actress, who only has 30 lines of dialogue in the film, recently confessed that she has rarely experienced a worse feeling during a shoot. “I do want to 100 percent preface this by saying I love George and if you’re going to do something like this, you want to be in the hands of someone like George Miller,” said the actress. " But he had a very, very strict idea of what Furiosa’s war face looked like, and that only allowed me my eyes for a large portion of the movie. It was very much ‘mouth closed, no emotion, speak with your eyes’. That’s it, that’s all you have.”
