Gamescom 2024: WILL: Follow the Light, from indie studio TomorrowHead, surprises at the German trade show
A title with the atmosphere of Alan Wake 2 and the immersive storytelling of Firewatch
Gamescom and Future Games Show are the perfect showcase for original proposals in the gaming world, and one of the most striking this year was without a doubt WILL: Follow the Light, a unique mix between the striking presentation and atmosphere of Alan Wake 2, the immersive narrative of Firewatch and even the realism of Sea of Thieves, the result of which we could see in a first and impressive trailer this week.
A debut that surprised at Gamescom
Presented at the Future Games Show 2024, WILL: Follow the Light is the debut title of the developer TomorrowHead Studio, which, despite its independent character, seems to have made the most of the powerful Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine to offer a game with an amazing appearance, whose narrative promises not to be left behind, telling the story of a father in a desperate search for his son.
As an exponent of the still-young genre of first-person exploration games, WILL: Follow the Light promises to throw players into a wild Nordic landscape. But this will be more than just a walking simulator, as, in addition to clever puzzles, the title will take realism by storm with some unique immersive mechanics, such as navigating using latitude and longitude data, or traversing the landscape aboard a dog sled.
After more than two years of development, the members of the TomorrowHead studio said they were thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase their first title. “At TomorrowHead we are inspired by some of the best games in the genre and what they do so well – Firewatch’s feeling of escape and loneliness… Alan Wake’s visuals and atmosphere… – and we have invested deeply in art and technology to bring players a narrative adventure that will see players exploring the world in a whole new way,” said Roman Novikov, founder and head of TomorrowHead Studio.
WILL: Follow the Light will be available on PC next year, with a commitment to reveal more about its immersive world before the end of 2024.
