Gary Oldman wants to come back to ‘Harry Potter’... as the upcoming show’s Dumbledore

He was already Sirius Black in the Warner Bros. Harry Potter movies, but now Gary Oldman has put his name in the goblet to take on the mantle of Dumbledore for the new series.

The upcoming reboot of the ‘Harry Potter’ saga as a series is one of the most anticipated projects of the coming years. Although the films of the early 2000s were a global phenomenon, the idea of enjoying a series that takes its time to adapt one book per season is everything a fan of the original novels can wish for. And although we can expect a completely new cast to give life to such famous characters, some of the performers from the original films have already shown interest in returning to the franchise. Such is the case of famous actor Gary Oldman, who played Sirius Black in the original films, and who is now running to be the new Dumbledore in the show.

Gary Oldman: From Azkaban escapee to Headmaster

This was mentioned by the 66-year-old actor in a recent interview with IndieWire, assuring that he would be happy to return to the magical universe of ‘Harry Potter’ taking advantage of the production of the new series for Max. And I wouldn’t do it again like Sirius Black, but the actor is thinking about an even more prominent role: that of Albus Dumbledore, the powerful wizard at the head of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

“I would bet my money that they will get a whole new cast of people. Maybe in a few years, I could do Dumbledore”, Oldman said in a joking tone when asked by IndieWire after reiterating, on many occasions, the good memories that he keeps of his time in the ‘Harry Potter’ movies.

And even though Oldman warns he could be Dumbledore in a few years, the truth is that he already has the age and appearance that would fit the character, even more so if we take into account the time that will pass until the start of filming of the series. Without going any further, Michael Gambon, the actor who gave life to the character in the cinema from the third installment after the death of Richard Harris, was Dumbledore with 64 years, so Oldman could take on the role without issue.

The ‘Harry Potter’ series is planned to premiere exclusively on Max in 2026.
