George Clooney says there aren’t “enough drugs in the world” for him to play Batman again
He’s been Batman more than enough times, becoming Bruce Wayne in ‘Batman and Robin’, but George Clooney doesn’t seem eager to return to the character.
George Clooney is one of the most popular actors in the history of cinema. Truly transcendent films like ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ and ‘The Thin Red Line’ speak volumes for his acting career. Did you know that he also played Batman? He did so in the mythical ‘Batman and Robin’, the 1997 film directed by Joel Schumacher, so let’s go with the million-dollar question: Will we see the legendary actor again in the role of Bruce Wayne (Batman)?
The answer he gave to Entertainment Tonight is very short, but forceful like few others, since eight words are enough to make his position on this possibility very clear: “There are not enough drugs in the world”. So, if there is anyone who in the middle of 2023—almost 2024—still wants to see Clooney as Batman, it’s better to forget about it.
The future of Batman in the new DCU
While Clooney’s involvement with the DCU is now a definitive no, even after making a quick cameo at the end of Andy Muschietti’s ‘The Flash’, the identity of Bruce Wayne in the new universe helmed by James Gunn is still a mystery. We do currently have a man under the cowl, as Robert Pattinson played a fantastic version of the Dark Knight in ‘The Batman’, which is also getting it’s own line of movies and shows. However, he is not a part of the main DCU that’ll begin with ‘Superman Legacy’.
The new DCU will have its version of the Dark Knight who will star in his own movie, ‘The Brave and the Bold’, but still without a release date or casting for the role. All in all, Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson’s Batman will be part of the so-called Elseworlds line of films, which take place on alternative lines to the main universe of James Gunn and Peter Safran, as is the case of ‘Joker’ with Joaquin Phoenix.”
