George R.R. Martin thinks House of the Dragon was robbed in the Emmy Awards

The author and scriptwriter of Game of Thrones laments that one of the biggest stars in House of the Dragon is going home emptyhanded during the Emmy Awards

When George R.R. Martin speaks he does not mince words. The author of A Song of Ice and Fire, also a screenwriter for Game of Thrones and its spin-offs, has made it clear that Paddy Considine deserved an Emmy nomination. His role as king Viserys Targaryen in House of the Dragon has been celebrated by critics and viewers, especially in one of the best scenes of the first season.

“You don’t get to contend for Best Dramatic Series unless you have some great actors, directors, and writers working of you. Most of our team will have other shots at the prize in seasons to come, to be sure ((I lost six Emmy Awards before I won my first)), but that’s not true for Paddy Considine”, he wrote on his blog. “And that’s heartbreaking. My gods, his portrayal was magnificent. He earned a shelf of trophies for episode eight alone.”

When does season 2 of House of the Dragon premiere?

The second season of House of the Dragon will not be ready in 2023, so everything points to 2024. In any case, there is some uncertainty: with the writers’ and actors’ strikes in full throttle, the author has confirmed that the production of the series is halfway done. The scripts were written before the start of the strike and he is not aware of any changes since then.

Followers of A Song of Ice and Fire have been waiting for the penultimate novel in the saga for more than a decade. The Game of Thrones series had to go its own way and imagine a different ending to the one the books will have, which at the moment has no signs of coming out anytime soon. George R.R. Martin mentioned that he keeps working on the book almost daily. According to his words, progress advances slowly but steadily: “Making steady progress. Not as fast as I would like.. .certainly not as fast as YOU would like… but progress nonetheless.”
