Geralt of Rivia will be in ‘The Witcher 4’, but he won’t be the game’s protagonist

As rumors have hinted, Geralt will not be the main character in the next ‘The Witcher’ game, but he’ll still be present in some way.

After the ending of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, there was nothing to indicate that Geralt of Rivia would not make an appearance in what was previously known as Project Polaris, a project which developer CD Projekt RED has already confirmed is a new game in ‘The Witcher’ franchise. So the fact that he will be in this fourth installment isn’t that surprising, but the news that he will not be the main protagonist of the game, as has been rumored insistently, is certainly not what we expected from the game.

This was revealed by Doug Cockle, the voice actor who’s played Geralt in every game in the franchise. Cockle acknowledged in an interview with Fall Damage that while they’ve announced a follow-up for their Witcher trilogy, they can’t confirm Geralt will return to the spotlight in it. “We know that Geralt will be part of the game, we just don’t know how much. The game won’t focus on Geralt, so it’s not about him this time. We don’t know who it’s about, I’m excited to find out!”

A long wait until the release of The Witcher 4

And although CD Projekt has provided that information to Cockle, he probably won’t be able to say anything, not because of confidentiality issues, but because he probably doesn’t know anything beyond what he’s already shared. The actor acknowledged that they have not even provided him with a script, so it is more than likely that it is still being worked on. For months now there has been speculation that Geralt would not be the protagonist of this fourth game in the main saga, but that on this occasion, the leading role would fall to Ciri, who already plays a crucial role in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, being, in fact, playable in several sections of the title.
