Germany revolutionizes construction with the largest residential building in Europe built with a 3D printer
It is a three-story building with 12 apartments and a total living area of approximately 800 m².
3D printing is a technology that has continued to grow in recent years, especially in sectors such as construction. One of the companies that has been most committed to this technology is the German firm PERI 3D Construction, whose latest project was carried out in France, specifically in the city of Bezannes, in the Champagne-Ardenne region. The result: a three-story building with 12 apartments, built in just 34 days by a team of only three workers.
With a living area of approximately 800 square meters, it is the largest 3D-printed residential building in Europe to date. The BOD2 printer, developed by COBOD, was used to construct it, along with a special cement-based printing mixture.
A groundbreaking project that marks the company’s debut in France
This is the first residential project of its kind that PERI 3D Construction has undertaken in France. The load-bearing structure and all the walls were printed directly on-site. Furthermore, construction of the exterior structure was completed in 34 business days—well below the 50 days initially projected—demonstrating the speed this technology can achieve compared to traditional methods.
The building incorporates several elements characteristic of sustainable construction, such as materials of biological and geological origin, a central heat pump, and a photovoltaic system. In addition, 3D-printed concrete offers high structural strength and improved fire protection performance.
Compared to conventional systems, this technology reduces the time needed to complete the load-bearing structure by nearly two months. Following the project’s success, the German company has already expressed its intention to continue promoting new construction projects using 3D printing.
