Goku vs. Vegeta: Who has won more head-to-head battles between them in Dragon Ball?
Find out which Super Saiyan has managed to win more times in their various battles against each other throughout the history of manga and anime.
Goku and Vegeta represent one of the most iconic rivalries in shonen manga, a very common resource in this type of story that in ‘Dragon Ball’ is almost its leitmotif since Vegeta’s arrival on Earth during the beginnings of ‘Dragon Ball Z’. The two Super Saiyans have faced each other on many occasions, with varying results. But who has emerged victorious more times, Goku or Vegeta?
Goku, Vegeta and their eternal rivalry
As Super Saiyan warriors, Goku and Vegeta never stop training to become stronger, and they always face each other to see who is more powerful. But who has come out on top more times than not? Let’s take a look at the various duels between the two throughout the various ‘Dragon Ball’ story arcs, including the non-canon ‘Dragon Ball GT’ series.
Let’s start with the first clash between the two with the arrival of Nappa and Vegeta on Earth. After Nappa’s defeat at the hands of Goku, Vegeta and Kakarot begin a fierce battle in which Vegeta manages to narrowly defeat Goku, with the rest of the Z-Warriors overpowering an exhausted Vegeta.
The next duel between the two did not take place until the Majin Buu arc, during the Martial Arts Tournament, when Vegeta allowed himself to be dominated by Babidi’s dark arts and unleashed his full potential. In this case, Vegeta once again defeats Goku after knocking him out.
Jumping ahead to ‘Dragon Ball Super’, the next duel between Goku and Vegeta takes place in a special arc of the anime where a duplicate of Vegeta appears with his same power and abilities. In this case, Goku manages to defeat this copy of the Prince of the Saiyans, although with a little help from Monaka, it should be said. The fourth fight between Goku and Vegeta takes place in the movie ‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’, an arc that has already been adapted from the manga and shows both Super Saiyans fighting in the world of Beerus as part of their training.
And although the duel takes place in the background, at the end of the movie we see that Vegeta is still standing against an exhausted Goku, so we can consider Vegeta the winner. The last fight between Goku and Vegeta in our review is part of ‘Dragon Ball GT’, the non-canon anime series of ‘Dragon Ball’, in which Goku must reach Super Saiyan 4 level to defeat a Baby-possessed Vegeta.
However, the various duels between Goku and Vegeta resulted in a 3-2 winner who is none other than Vegeta, the prince of the Saiyans. Will the two warriors have the opportunity to face each other again in the future?
