Goodbye to ‘The Bear’: Jamie Lee Curtis confirms that season five will be the last
The actress who plays Donna Berzatto takes the series’ conclusion for granted and hints at an ending that is already known within the team.
‘The Bear’ may already be preparing its final dish. Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays Donna Berzatto in the FX series, has stated during the promotion of ‘Scarpetta’ that the fifth season will also be the last. She said it emphatically. First, she stated that “it’s the end of the series,” and then insisted that “everyone knows it’s the end of the series.”
The actress had already dropped a hint a few weeks ago. On February 17, she posted a farewell message on Instagram after finishing her work on the production and spoke of having completed “the story of this extraordinary family” that, in her own words, so many viewers had fallen in love with. At the time, the comment sounded ambiguous, almost like a personal farewell to her character. Now, however, Curtis has gone much further and spoken openly about the end of the series.
The most striking thing is that Jamie Lee Curtis did not present her words as an exclusive or an indiscretion. On the contrary. As she explained, she does not feel that she is revealing anything new, because the plan had been known internally for some time. The actress maintained that she was not “breaking any news to anyone” and that the end of the series was something that, in her opinion, had been said “from the beginning.” She even joked about the possibility of having put her foot in her mouth, hinting that, if that was not the case, then perhaps she had spoken more than she should have.
An idea that comes as no surprise
There is, however, one important caveat. FX has not officially confirmed that the fifth season will be the last. What has been confirmed is the renewal of the series for a fifth season, announced in July 2025 by John Landgraf. At the time, the president of FX highlighted the series’ following, praised the work of Chris Storer, the cast, and the crew, and celebrated that they could continue telling “this magnificent story.” That statement clearly spoke of continuity, but not of a farewell.
Even so, the picture fits. Several media outlets are already reporting that the fifth season will be the end of ‘The Bear’, an idea that coincides with Curtis’ words and also with the narrative direction of the fourth season. The end of that season left Carmy in a position of change and distancing, an exit that many interpret as the natural starting point for wrapping up the story in a final batch of episodes.
Curtis also spoke about the series in an unmistakably somber tone. She described it as a great work of fiction and expressed her gratitude for having been able to be part of it as Donna, one of the toughest and most painful characters in the entire Berzatto universe. It does not yet seem like an official farewell from the studio, but it does sound very similar: a key actress in the supporting cast talking about the end as a foregone conclusion.
