Google I/O 2024: everything announced around AI and Android

Google showed its future full of artificial intelligence and its applications in everyday life.

Google has set its sights on an AI that aims to assist the user in all situations of our lives. Through its annual presentation, I/O, Google showed us what will soon come to innovate its entire range of products.

Video searches

While a picture is worth a thousand words, and for some time now Google Lens has allowed us to search through photos and images, now the search will go a step further. Google will allow us to take a video of something and ask a question, this will lead Google’s AI to find answers related to this type of search.

Gemini grows by leaps and bounds

Google’s AI, Gemini (formerly known as Bard), continues to learn and grow with new capabilities coming in the next few months.

  • Gemini will now be able to search within your Photos library using “Ask Photos”.
  • Gemini is growing with Gemini 1.5 Flash, a new model that differs from the Pro pay model and is optimized for “narrow, high-frequency, low-latency tasks,” making it faster to generate responses.
  • Gemini 1.5 Pro will now be part of Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive and Gmail, appearing as a general assistant within your workspace.
  • Gemini will allow us to create custom chatbot creators called Gems that we can define how they respond and what they can specialize in.
  • Finally, voice chat with Gemini will also be improved to make it more natural with Gemini Live. We will be able to interrupt the AI mid-sentence to ask other questions.

Project Astra brings us closer to Jarvis

We may not have Iron Man’s armor (for now), but Project Astra aims to have our own AI assistant that accompanies us through the video at all times. This AI can see and understand what it sees through the camera, answer your questions, and even remember where you left things.

Veo introduces its generative video model

If you remember OpenAI’s Sora from earlier this year, Google has now shown its answer. This AI generates 1080p videos based on text, image, and video-based prompts.

AI also arrives to Android

AI is also coming to Android in two features. First, Gemini Nano AI will help Android smartphone users avoid scam calls by analyzing common scammer conversation patterns and issuing warnings. Second, Android users will now be able to ask questions about the videos they see on their smartphone screen, with the AI analyzing and providing answers.

Google Chrome on desktop will receive its own Gemini

Gemini Nano, the light version of Gemini, comes to the browser, allowing you to have an AI assistant to help you generate text for social media, among other things.
