Update:

If you’re fortunate enough to be a gamer, you can enjoy a variety of gaming options. If you are one of the 3 million lucky gamers who already have a Nintendo Switch 2, but you are more comfortable playing with an Xbox or PlayStation controller, or you can simply wait a little longer to buy a Nintendo Pro Controller 2, this may interest you.

Your favorite controller on your Switch 2

Although there is no official compatibility between these controllers and the Nintendo Switch 2, there is a device that can help you create a wireless connection. This is the 8BitDo Wireless USB Adapter 2, which, for only $20, will allow you to use other Bluetooth controllers—including those originally made for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo—on the Nintendo Switch 2. Compatible models include the PS5 DualSense, DualSense Edge, Xbox Elite Series 2, and older controllers like the DualShock 3, DualShock 4, Wii Remote, and Wii U Pro Controller. It even supports vibration and motion controls when available.

Using 8BitDo’s free Ultimate Software for Windows to remap buttons and change sensitivity is one of the most notable features, providing more versatility for compatible controllers. This is especially useful for complex games like Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom, where advanced input options like the Elite Series 2’s remappable paddles shine. While the original adapter has been updated for Switch 2, this newer version is a better buy thanks to full Xbox Wireless Controller support at the same price.

Setting up the 8BitDo Wireless USB Adapter 2

First, connect the adapter to your Windows PC or Mac and use 8BitDo’s firmware updater or Ultimate Software to install the latest update, which adds Switch 2 compatibility. Once updated, plug the adapter into a USB-A port on the Switch 2 dock. Then, navigate to System Settings on your console, go to Controllers & Accessories, and enable “Pro Controller Wired Communication” to allow pairing. To connect a wireless controller, press the adapter’s pairing button and activate pairing mode on your controller.
