GOTY 2023: Who is Geoff Keighley, The Game Awards host?

The charismatic TGA host will be presenting the 2023 Game of the Year Award.

We all know Geoff Keighley, the unmistakable face of The Game Awards, and therefore the person who will be presenting the 2023 GOTY award to the winning game of this prestigious award. However, there are those who only know him as the host of the ceremony that we enjoy so much every year in the early days of December. Did you know where he comes from and why he became so famous?

Who is Geoff Keighley?

Geoff Marcon Keighley is 44 years old and Canadian, and although we have become accustomed to seeing him every year at both The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest, his career began many years ago when he was not yet in the spotlight as he is today.

Keighley has a degree in journalism, specializing in video games and digital entertainment, and trained as a television presenter. In fact, his first appearance in front of the cameras was in 1994 when he hosted Cybermania 94: The Ultimate Gamer Awards, where the GOTY went to none other than Mortal Kombat.

That ceremony was a harbinger of things to come, as after several years of actively participating in E3 in Los Angeles and various jobs at Comcast, MTV and Discovery Channel, Spike TV finally caught his eye and he began working on the Spike Video Game Awards in 2006.

It was in 2014 that he finally decided to embark on a new solo adventure and create The Game Awards, something that would not have been possible without the support of industry heavyweights Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft. And here we are, in the middle of 2023, about to see Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder battle it out for Geoff Keighley’s 2023 GOTY award.

It’s no secret that the presenter has a fantastic relationship with Hideo Kojima, so much so that the eccentric Japanese creative decided to include him in Death Stranding with a hilarious cameo. Geoff Keighley’s character is located near Capital Knot City, so you can meet him a few minutes into the game. Will he make an appearance in Death Stranding 2?
