Graham Greene of ‘Dances with Wolves’ and ‘Twilight’ dies
“It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of award-winning legendary Canadian actor Graham Green” Gerry Jordan, the actor’s agent and manager in Canada, told Entertainment Weekly. Greene graduated from the Indigenous Theatre Centre Program in 1972 and made his big screen debut in 1983’s Running Brave. The actor went on to appear in films such as The Green Mile, Maverick, and two installments of the Twilight saga.
Michael Greene, his agent in California, said: “He was a great man of morals, ethics and character and will be eternally missed. You are finally free.” Born in 1952 in Ohsweken, Canada, he began his acting career in the 1970s, appearing in various plays. His first roles in front of the cameras were in the 1976 martial arts film Bei Shao lin and the 1979 series The Great Detective. However, his first big break came when Kevin Costner cast him in Dances with Wolves.
In the award-winning film—which received 12 Oscar nominations and won seven, including Best Picture and Best Director for Kevin Costner—Greene played Kicking Bird, surely his most memorable role. Not surprisingly, his performance earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Other roles followed in Maverick, Thunderheart, Die Hard with a Vengeance, The Green Mile, The Education of Little Tree, and two films from The Twilight Saga, New Moon and Breaking Dawn – Part 2.
His most recent work includes small roles in Defiance, Goliath, Tulsa King, The Last of Us, and Echo. The actor also lent his voice to Rockstar Games’ video game Red Dead Redemption 2, bringing to life Sudden Rain, an Indian chief in the Western fiction starring Arthur Morgan. Rest in peace.
