GTA 6 could be delayed until 2026 according to former Rockstar developer
Obbe Vermeij, former technical director at Rockstar Games, thinks the game could still be delayed and even gives a date for Rockstar to announce it.
One of the most important moments for 2025 is the arrival of Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar Games has already confirmed that the title will be released in autumn next year and, almost a year after the first official glimpse, information has been coming in little by little. However, this has led to assumptions that the release could suffer some delay, something that has happened frequently throughout the history of the company’s games. Now, a former developer gives his opinion on the matter.
Obbe Vermeij, the former Rockstar Games technical director who leaked details about Agent late last year, has posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the upcoming GTA 6 may not make the fall 2025 release window, “no matter what it said in the trailer.”
GTA VI delay could be announced 4 months before its possible release date
According to Vermeij, the delay of GTA VI could occur in May 2025, at a point where Rockstar can still determine its previously announced date. This is based on the 4 month delay that GTA IV suffered at the time, a game that took another 4 months to release. Another prediction Vermeij points out is that GTA VI will sell for more than 10 years and will have no competition to worry about. With all of this, he ends by mentioning that Rockstar will not release the game “until they’re 100% happy with it.
Is GTA VI’s delay imminent?
At the time, we went through the list of Grand Theft Auto’s most recent releases since they went HD, and the pattern was there. Both GTA IV, GTA V and even Red Dead Redemption 2, the studio’s big titles, had had some sort of delay, ranging from 4 months to a full year. So what will happen with Grand Theft Auto VI? Although internally at Take-Two they are “very confident” that it will arrive in 2025, the number of rumors point to the fact that we may have to wait a bit longer.
For the time being, and until Rockstar sounds the alarm, Grand Theft Auto VI will arrive in the fall of 2025 for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
