GTA 6 may be delayed, what is the trend with Rockstar Games games?

It wouldn’t be the first time that the creators of Red Dead Redemption 2 have delayed one of their games... in fact, all of their major titles have been delayed.

Gamers are on tenterhooks to find out when they will be able to play Grand Theft Auto 6. Meanwhile, developers are waiting to know the final date because depending on it they will be able to decide the launch of their own video games without coinciding with the colossus of Rockstar Games. Kotaku has published information in which it drops a possible delay until 2026. According to sources who have asked to remain anonymous, the development of GTA 6 has begun to “fall behind,” a matter that worries the studio leaders a lot, as they fear not being on time and have to delay it. According to the media, that is another reason behind the company’s request for employees to return to the office.

After several leaks, Rockstar Games presented the first trailer of the expected video game. Although there is no concrete date, the teaser confirms that the company intends to market it in 2025. Kotaku has reported that the goal is still to release it in the spring of next year, although sources stress that they are not sure they will meet this target, so it would not be ruled out that it would be released later that year or later if a “contingency plan” needs to be activated.

Have any other Rockstar Games games been delayed?

Would it be unusual to be delayed until the end of the year or beyond? The track record shows that delays are very common for Rockstar Games productions. Red Dead Redemption 2 was scheduled for fall 2017, but the studio delayed it until spring of the following year. However, it also did not arrive in the season most hated by those allergic to pollen, as it suffered a second delay and was not released until October 26, 2018.

GTA V was not released on schedule either. Rockstar had planned to release it in May 2013, but was forced to change the schedule and delay production by another four months, to September 17 of that year: “We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time.”

More of the same with the previous installment in the series. The company hinted that the PlayStation 3 version influenced the delay of GTA IV, which was finally released on April 29, 2008. Its downloadable content was also delayed until the following year.

Considering Rockstar Games’ track record, no one in their right mind would throw their hands in the fire. All in all, and until proven otherwise, GTA 6 will be released in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
