Halo Infinite's rumored battle royale canceled, according to insider

The unannounced mode of 343 Industries’ shooter may have ended its existence without even being formally announced.

Halo Infinite's rumored battle royale canceled, according to insider

Although Halo Infinite continues to show constant updates for the online mode, an alleged unannounced Battle Royale mode has been canceled according to an insider.

According to Shpeshal_Nick, a trusted insider and co-founder of XboxEra, the alleged Battle Royale mode codenamed Project Tatanka has been canceled, as revealed in the latest XboxEra podcast. This alleged mode had been mentioned on and off since the game’s launch in 2021, with Certain Affinity supporting its development. The studio had been working with 343 Industries for the last 15 years, and helped in the development of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo Infinite.

According to an interview with VentureBeat (via IGN), Certain Affinity president and COO Paul Sams talked about how they were developing something  “big and new” for Halo Infinite. “For more than two years now we’ve been working on Halo Infinite doing something that – they’re very prescriptive about what we can say,” he mentioned. “It’s something big and new for the franchise. But I can’t say any more about it. That’s our single largest project of our three projects currently. We have close to 100 developers working on that.”

Neither 343 Industries, the studio behind the Halo series, nor Microsoft have commented on the matter.

More Halo coming... to TV

While Halo Infinite continues to receive content, and in this case, mode cancellations, Master Chief’s future continues on TV. Just last week Paramount released the trailer for Halo Season 2, showing lots of action, plenty more Covenant, and a special focus on Reach, home of the SPARTAN program that created Master Chief and the other soldiers.

So far there are not many details about this Season 2, but we know that it will arrive on February 8, 2024, with two episodes on Paramount Plus.
