The first trailer gives us an in-depth look at the new Hogwarts on the small screen.

Update:

Seeing Harry Potter dressed in his Quidditch uniform was quite a statement from HBO. The series about the most famous wizard in modern literature is getting closer and closer, and now we can see him in action. Its first trailer, which you’ll find below, is ramping up the hype to unprecedented levels.

Everything we know about ‘Harry Potter’ on HBO, the network’s most ambitious series since ‘Game of Thrones’

The new ‘Harry Potter’ series being developed by HBO is billed as a “faithful” adaptation of the literary saga, designed to explore the magical universe more extensively and unfold over several seasons, with a premiere scheduled Christmas 2026. According to the company itself, the project aims to bring “every corner of the magical world” to a new generation of viewers, while keeping the original films at the heart of the franchise. In terms of plot, everything points to the first season kicking off with the first major part of the story, equivalent to ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’: Harry’s discovery as a wizard, his arrival at Hogwarts, and the beginning of an adventure marked by secrets, pivotal friendships, and a threat already looming in the shadows.

The core of the cast has already been finalized with three young leads: Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley—all selected following a massive casting call that drew tens of thousands of applicants. Surrounding them, HBO has assembled a particularly strong ensemble of adult actors: John Lithgow will play Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer will be Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu will take on the role of Severus Snape, and Nick Frost will step into the shoes of Rubeus Hagrid. Also confirmed are Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, two key figures in the story’s early days at Hogwarts.

The announced cast doesn’t stop there. Katherine Parkinson will play Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt will play Draco Malfoy, and Johnny Flynn will play Lucius Malfoy; in addition, Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby will play Petunia and Vernon Dursley, while Bertie Carvel will take on the role of Cornelius Fudge. Among the students already confirmed are Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown. More names were added to that list in March 2026, including Orson Matthews as Oliver Wood, Asha Soetan as Angelina Johnson, Eire Farrell as Katie Bell, Ethan Smith as Lee Jordan, and India Moon as Hannah Abbott—a sign that the series is already populating Hogwarts with a large cast that closely follows the original text.
