HBO boss reacts to Neil Druckmann’s departure from ‘The Last of Us’: “I’m not worried at all”
Casey Bloys believes the series is in good hands.
‘The Last of Us’ series will be without Neil Druckmann, director of the video games and co-showrunner of the series. This was announced by the creative himself in early July, when he published a statement in which he justified the decision by alluding to his desire to focus on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, his new video game. After a few weeks, Casey Bloys -head of HBO- has been asked about this issue.
The CEO of the company has assured that he is not worried about the future of the series, although he has acknowledged that it has been great to have Neil Druckmann throughout these two seasons.
HBO chief trusts Craig Mazin
“Obviously it was great to have Neil involved in the beginning,” he said. “The whole reason that I wanted to do ‘Last of Us’ is after ‘Chernobyl,’ I said to Craig [Mazin, co-showrunner], ‘what do you want to do next?’ And ‘Last of Us’ was what he wanted to do.”
For Bloys, the most important thing was that Craig was excited about the series. “It was fantastic to have Neil involved. A lot of people don’t realize that Neil has a full time job creating video games and running Naughty Dog. It’s a really big job that he’s got. So I understand why he needs to focus on that. But I believe he’s given us a good blueprint with the show. And obviously Craig is a pro, so I think we’ll be in excellent shape. I’m not worried at all.”
‘The Last of Us’ has been renewed for a third season and it is not yet confirmed if it will end or if it will conclude in the fourth season.
