HBO's 'Harry Potter' series wants Oscar winner to play Dumbledore

Mark Rylance is at the top of the producers’ wish list for the TV series.

Harry Potter’ gets a series for HBO Max. After the series of movies that started at the beginning of the century, the books will be adapted again, but this time in the form of a series. The idea of Warner Bros, who are in charge of the production, is to make 7 seasons, one for each novel. In fact, they have already announced an open casting call for boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 11, mainly to choose the actors who will bring to life Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger (Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson respectively in the films).

In addition, Variety has reported that the show’s creators are looking for an actor to play Dumbledore (Richard Harris in the film saga). The favorite is Mark Rylance, who won the Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role in Steven Spielberg’s ‘Bridge of Spies’ (2015). The British actor is also known for his performances in ‘Dunkirk’, ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7′ and ‘Don’t Look Up’, as well as the series ‘Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light’.

What are the details of the series?

In 2023, the streaming platform HBO Max announced the creation of a series about “Harry Potter”, independent of the films. The title of the series has not yet been chosen, so we will have to wait a little longer to find out. The release date, according to Max’s head of content Casey Bloys, will be either 2026 or 2027, as the various options are still being shuffled around. As for who is behind the project, Francesca Gardiner will be the showrunner and executive producer and Mark Mylod will direct some episodes of the series. The series will run for 7 seasons, the same number as the 7 books written by J.K. Rowling. The author is also expected to supervise the project.

The most important detail of all, what it will be about, is known in dribs and drabs. Only the adaptation of the books is known, but Casey Bloys has assured that it will be a faithful adaptation of the story. We will soon know if Mark Rylance will be involved in this project.
