HBO’s Harry Potter TV adaptation has started an open casting call for roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione

It seems like the Harry Potter adaptation by HBO is set to start as soon as they find their three main stars, as an open casting call for the roles has been found.

Harry Potter is poised for a new age of ultra popularity, as HBO is almost ready to begin filming on their adaptation of the books into a TV series of their own. While not much is known about the project until now other than what little hints the studio has shared, they appear to be ready to start filming early next year, as they are currently holding a casting call for the show’s main stars.

As reported by Variety, an open casting call for the show has been found and confirmed by HBO themselves to be real. This casting call is specifically looking for children who will be between 9 and 11 years old in April 2025, and specifically for residents of the U.K. and Ireland. “We are committed to inclusive, diverse casting,” states the announcement. “For every role, please submit qualified performers, without regard to ethnicity, sex, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis protected by law unless otherwise specifically indicated.”

The audition also calls for actors to submit two short tapes that specifically exclude anything from the Harry Potter books or related media. “Please prepare a short poem or story of your choosing. It can be from your favourite book, a poem that you love, a monologue from a play or something you’ve created yourself. Please, nothing from ‘Harry Potter’. Please use your own accent. 30 seconds maximum!”

The second tape of their audition is focused on the actors presenting and talking about themselves in their own accent, as naturally as possible. Submissions to the casting call have a deadline of October 31, as the show will be filming in the U.K. during 2025-2026.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is set to make a return

We’ve known for a couple of years already that a TV adaptation of the Harry Potter novels was in the works by HBO, but it’s only been recently that we’ve learned more details. Back in February, during an earnings call for Warner Bros. Discovery, we learned that they plan to premiere the show in 2026. “We’ve not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter. The last film was made more than a dozen years ago,” said CEO David Zaslav about the project.

The Harry Potter TV series has been in development since 2021 and until relatively recently, in April last year, the official announcement was made that the 7 books of the Boy Who Lived saga had been greenlit for television. Warner Bros. plans the series to run for 10 years and be a MAX exclusive. For the time being, there are no announcements about the possible cast or when filming will begin.+
