HBO’s new ‘Harry Potter’ series bombshell: actor to play Dumbledore confirmed, but there’s a big problem with the role

‘Harry Potter’ is one of the biggest popular culture phenomena of the last few decades. It has left its mark on literature, film, and other industries such as video games. Although the series ended more than a decade ago, J.K. Rowling’s work does not seem to be going out of style, and should that happen, productions such as the television series being prepared by HBO will try to prevent it by keeping the popular wizard relevant.

One of the big questions surrounding the series is who will bring to life the mythical characters that were so well represented in their time. Little by little, those doubts are being dispelled, and there is already a lead actor in place. It is the legendary American actor John Lithgow, who will be none other than Albus Dumbledore, as he confirmed in an interview with ScreenRant. However, there is a problem: the company itself is responsible for lowering expectations.

The actor emphasized in his statements “It came as a total surprise to me. I just got the phone call up at the Sundance Film Festival for yet another film, and it was not an easy decision because it’s going to define me for the last chapter of my life, I’m afraid. But I’m very excited. Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to ‘Harry Potter’. That’s why it’s been such a hard decision. I’ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I’ve said yes.”

HBO released a statement saying, “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.” Therefore, there is nothing official from the company yet, although the actor’s statements lead us to believe that everything points to him and that he will be 80 years old in 2025.
