He acted so badly that his scene was cut from the movie, but since it appears in the DVD extras, he managed to collect royalties

The successful author shows how little money he made from his cameo, which surprised all his followers.

It is common to see cameos in movies or series by characters who are closely associated with those works, as is usually the case with the original authors. The perfect example is Stan Lee in Marvel, but there are many more, although there are also cases where his participation is so disastrous in terms of performance that he is eventually discarded. That’s what happened to John Green, who has written several books that have been adapted to the screen, but was far from up to par in the first adaptation of his life, ‘The Fault in Our Stars.’

The movie was released in 2014 and stars Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, who have already met in the “Divergent” saga. The original author uploaded his YouTube video talking about the anecdote and explaining that, as it appears in the DVD extras, he managed to collect royalties, although the amount received has surprised many.

A performance to forget with unexpected benefits

John Green shares the fact that he is “included in the DVD extras, so I still get a check,” and when he sees how much he has received, it is 30 cents of a dollar. Yes, and just in case you don’t believe him, he shows you the letter. Money he can’t collect, and that’s because the bills are rounded down, so until he gets a dollar, he can’t get paid for such a terrible performance that only appears in the DVD extras of ‘The Fault in Our Stars’.

The author takes what happened as a joke, an anecdote that he has shared with his followers, in which he asks a question: “Do you know how bad at acting you have to be to have your cameo cut out of the movie adaptation of your own book? I know how bad you have to be”.
