Helldivers 2 devs prepare for the weekend with a new patch that raises the player cap to 700,000
Get ready for a whole lot of Democracy: Helldivers 2 just got a new patch that almost doubles its server capacity, among other updates, in preparation for the weekend.
With the weekend ahead of us, Helldivers 2 has just received a new patch that raises the player cap in their server to a respectable 700,000 concurrent players. This is all in response to the game’s issues last weekend, to avoid the same issues that came from way too many players trying to spread Democracy throughout the stars.
In a long night of updates at the late hours of February 22, the CEO of Arrowhead Johan Pilestedt shared updates on how the development is going. “We have updated the max CCU cap to 700,000. Unfortunately, we expect the CCU to reach that level. We believe that the wait times will be much more bearable,” he said.
“The server cap (max CCU) has been raised, we might still hit the limit in the future but for now we are above what we have been able to support. We are actively Monitoring the situation.”
Helldivers 2 is a success so big it broke the game
Neither Sony nor Arrowhead were ready for the amount of success that Helldivers 2 would have from the moment of its release just a couple of weeks ago. The third-person co-op shooter has seen hordes of players trying to join the online game constantly, which has caused extremely long wait times to get into the title as it is an online-only game.
Ever since, the studio has been extremely transparent and candid about the work they’re doing to bring the game to the capacity and stability it requires to support all of the players that try to join the game. And even so, its popularity only keeps growing and growing.
In our review we said that “this could very well be a long-lived game should it get consistent content drops and events, which is something that PlayStation has been clamoring for ever since the release of PlayStation 5. Should they fix all of their server issues and maintain a healthy framework for people to play in, we might still be talking about it in the years to come
Helldivers II is now available on PlayStation 5 and Steam. Just expect a few waiting queues.
