Helldivers 2 is getting a collaboration with Killzone, according to a recent leak
Arrowhead Game Studios gets a little space fascism on our Super Democracy, as a Helldivers 2 leak has revealed an incoming crossover with Guerrilla Games’ Killzone.
There’s no denying that Helldivers 2 is a highly successful game, even after Sony’s massive fumble right at the peak of its popularity and subsequent months of the developers working to make things right. But few expected it to be powerful enough to bring back the dead. That seems to be the case now, however, as a recent leak revealed that the multiplayer title is set to get a crossover with the Killzone series.
Developed by Guerrilla Games as the flagship PlayStation-exclusive FPS franchise, Killzone shined because of its gritty style, showcasing a war with a fascist regime called The Helghast. Comprised of the series’ signature gasmask-wearing red-eyed soldiers with huge amounts of violence and a dark undertone, the faction grew to become one of the most recognizable images for PS fans throughout the PS2, PS3, and PS4 eras. However, after Killzone: Shadow Fall, the studio shelved the franchise in favor of the Horizon series of open world games set in the far future.
While the tweets have already been taken down, the revelation of this crossover was made by Twitter user Iron_S1ghts. The images shown revealed a new Warbond for Helldivers 2 called “Righteous Revenants”, with clear imagery alluding to the Helghast. What’s more is that the rest of the content seems taken straight from the old FPS games: from the various Helghast armors to a trifecta of heavy weapons reminiscent of the series.
Helldivers 2 recently had quite the week, as during The Game Awards 2024 ceremony it managed to win Arrowhead Game Studios both the “Best Multiplayer Game” and the “Best Ongoing Game” awards. Furthermore, the game had a moment in the show’s spotlight, as the infamous Helldiver recruiter took the stage to give a rousing speech, right before it revealed a new massive update for the game.
The new update added a third enemy faction to the game, The Illuminate, which brings an entirely new kind of cosmic horror to the game with zombie-like enemies, classic sci-fi aliens, tripods, and more. But even better, it gives players new toys to dispense Freedom with, like the first-ever melee weapon and, more importantly, a 4-seat all-terrain vehicle with a machine gun for epic pursuits.
